Ongoing misinformation and myths about the deadly coronavirus were dispelled, when Africa Update correspondent spoke with Dr. Babbo Diana, who works at the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, as the acting State Health Educator, on Wednesday, January 19, to respond to issues bothering on vaccines and its efficacy.
Responding to the question on why people still die, despite being vaccinated, Dr. Babbo said, vaccinated People are not dying from covid-19. She noted “that the vaccines do not stop someone from contracting the virus or passing it on but it does stop one from progressing to severe respiratory distress and death which are the end pathways of the disease progression being infected to manifesting symptoms which may become severe”.
Reiterating that “Vaccines act to prevent severe forms of an illness, and reduce short or long term complications such as the blood clot formation that we have seen with Covid 19 infection. A vaccinated person has a better outcome when inflected than an unvaccinated person”.
She urged those who have not been vaccinated to visit any designated covid-19 vaccination center in the State to get the 1st, 2nd and booster doses of the covid-19 vaccine.
