Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Abuloma provides free Ultrasound Scan for 40 women

No fewer than 40 pregnant women have benefited from the Maternal and Child Health project organised by the Rotary club of Port Harcourt Abuloma on August 2, Africa Update reports.

The project which was organised in collaboration with Olive Tree Diagnostic Services Limited, took place at corporate headquarters of the diagnostic firm, along Eastern By pass in Port Harcourt the Rivers State Capital.

Speaking at the sidelines of the project, the Club President, Rtn. Omobolaji Nkem Ajayi, said the provision of free Ultra Sound scan was to cater for the wellbeing of the mother and Fetus.

He said: ” This is a very special day for the Rotary club of Port Harcourt Abuloma. We are fulfilling one of our primary objectives in maternal and child health. We are carrying out a project today, giving out free ultrasound scan to 40 women selected from Abuloma and Okuru Ama communities.

” Of course, we are doing this project in partnership with Olive Tree Diagnostic Services Limited, who has graciously given us 50% (fifty percent) subsidy on their regular cost.

” We know how important Ultrasound Scans are in determining the health status of the Fetus during different stages of development.

“So, this helps the doctors, the Gynecologists that are attending to these women to be able to access the foetal health. It will also go a long way to help reduce incidences of maternal and child mortality, because when these problems are detected early, the doctors can always draw up a management plan to be able to fix these issues.

“Rotary does this everywhere, we intervene in every Community, in every locality that we are . We try to make sure that we put smiles on the faces of people and of course, today, for these 40 women, they are excited.

” We have today, one person who is 37 weeks pregnant and she has never had an ultrasound. Why? Because she could not afford it. But thanks to the Rotary club of Port Harcourt Abuloma and our intervention with this project, she is able to determine the State of her Fetus, how healthy it is , what sex of baby she is carrying and she is excited. She is happy. She is elated.

” She could have gone through her pregnancy without even having an ultrasound scan. But today, we have been able to help her achieve her dream.”

He expressed appreciation to Dr. Steven, the Chief Medical Director and owner of Olive Tree Diagnostic Services Limited for the collaboration, which has enabled the club extend the medical intervention to more pregnant women.

On his part, Dr. Steven commended the club for the medical intervention and urged other humanitarian organisations to emulate the gesture of Rotary.

Also speaking, the Assistant Governor, overseeing the activities of the club, Rtn. Peacockba Babalola, applauded the President and other club members for organising such a worthy project.
