Daredevil gunmen kill two NDLEA officers

Daredevil gunmen have killed two officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in Owerri the Imo State capital.

Africa update gathered that the officers, attached to the Joint Security Taskforce team of the ‘Operation Search and Flush’ patrol team, lost their lives during a gun battle to save a kidnapped female victim.

According to sources, the incident, occurred at Ohi Junction on Orlu Road around 6.30 pm on Friday. It was gathered that the kidnappers had seized an unidentified woman inside the city centre and drove away with her, but when they approached Amakohia flyover, there was a gridlock because of the ongoing lockdown.

The woman, had attempted to jump out of the vehicle, waving and shouting to the security officers that she had been kidnapped, when she saw the armed security men on the road.

Unfortunately for her, the kidnappers manouvered the traffic and sped off towards Orlu road while the security men jumped into their vehicle and chased after the abductors. It was gathered that there was an exchange of gunfire as they chased the abductors.

The kidnappers stopped at Ohi Junction and engaged the security men in the gun battle. Two of the NDLEA officers were gunned down while other members of the JTF sustained various degrees of injuries.

Confirming the incident, the state police spokesman, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
