The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said that it never issued a fresh directive to commercial banks to obey last Friday’s judgement of the Supreme Court ordering the recirculation of the old 500 and 1000 naira notes alongside the new notes.
Several reports had on Wednesday suggested that the Apex bank had approved the recirculation of old 500 and 1,000 naira notes till December 31, 2023.
The CBN Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Isa Abdulmumim, on Wednesday declared the report as ‘fake news. He further urged Nigerians to disregard it and avoid purveyors of ‘fake news
