Glenn Gibbins, candidate of the Reform UK, who said that Nigerians should be melted down to ‘fill in pot holes’, has won a councillorship seat.
Local elections in the United Kingdom were held on Thursday for 5,066 English councillors, 136 English local authorities, and six directly elected mayors in England. Gibbins, who contested at Hylton castle ward in Sunderland, won his seat in this week’s council elections.
According to some posts which have been deleted, he ranted on social media that he “carnt [sic] believe the amount of Nigerians in town” and they “should melt them all down and fill in the pot holes”.
He also complained about women being on TV, calling Mel and Sue the two “unfunniest fat repulsive lesbian hosts ever”.
Gibbins’ views also extended to sport, writing during the 2021 Ireland v Japan rugby match: “Yet another woman comentator. It’s getting out of control. There must be a hundred better male commentators, but I had to give it to a female [sic].
“Wish they wud stick to cooking, sewing, and homemaking [sic].”
He had allegedly made inflammatory comments about migrants and Muslims in several other posts. In one post, he referred to boat migrants as “an army of Muslims who will in time turn on us”, while another read: “OUR TOLERANCE IS The MUSLIMS GREATEST WEAPON.”
He had also bodyshamed the native women of Sunderland, calling them fat.
“Imagine if all the Sunderland women now! lived 120 years ago, they would get paid by people just to see how fat they were,” he added.
