Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, Dr Roland Obed Whyte has called on individuals occupying positions of authority to work for the development of humanity and mankind.
Dr. Whyte who made the appeal in Port Harcourt, when he was conferred with an award by the Nigerian Society of Chaplains, said those in advantageous positions in the society should be charitable to members of the society and win souls for God almighty.
The Permanent Secretary commended the Nigerian Society of Chaplains, Rivers and Bayelsa State Chapters for their humanitarian work especially in the area of remoulding Youths.
According to him, “before I decided to accept this offer. I made an investigation about the organization and I discovered that it is a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO,) registered and recognized by the government”.
” It’s an organization which is out to recover lost souls for the Lord and for the greater good of the larger society.
it is important to consider others and be charitable”, he said.
He noted that the objective of the organization conformed with his upbringing in helping the needy, and gave assurances to continue to work harder in support for the Chaplains Society.
He used the opportunity to appeal to those occupying positions of Authority to seize any opportunity available to them to positively impact on humanity and reap the attendant rewards often associated with rendering such kind gestures to mankind.
The State Commandant of the Nigeria Society of Chaplains, Rivers State Chapter, Mrs Doris Owei-Agbah said the Nigerian Society of Chaplains is a society of Christians otherwise known as Born Again children of Jesus Christ who render humanaterian services and also work like a para military outfit, offering first aid services in collaboration with the Nigerian Red Cross Society and other well meaning organisations.
Commandant Doris said that members of the organization are trained and duly certified to work as first aid care givers.
She also disclosed that their members are also moral instructors to most of the Government secondary schools in a bid to curb the menace of social vices that has eaten deep into the fibre of the Youths in the present day society.
High point of the occasion was the decoration of the Permanent Secretary as an Associate member and the issuance of a certificate of the Association.
