…As Rivers Women Unite for SIM pledge support, sue for peaceful polls

The Senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial district at the national Assembly and candidate of the PDP in the 2023 general elections, Sen. Barry Mpigi has said the Ogonis are not for divisive politics but fully in support of the governorship candidate of the PDP, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.

Sen. Mpigi made this known on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at the Rivers South East Women Unity Walk for SIM and solidarity rally held in Bori, the headquarters of Khana local government area of the state, stressing that there is nothing like Ogoni governor or turn and charged the people not to vote for him if they were not ready to vote for Siminalayi Fubara.

“Sir Siminalayi Fubara is a son and brother of Ogoni people and will consolidate on the massive development witnessed in the area under Gov. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike who transformed the Saakpewan/Kono road into a dual carriageway. This is a remarkable feat in the history of the zone which cannot be taken for granted,” he noted.

The Senator commended the women for the impressive programme and in the spirit of the season released 700 bags of rice and N500,000 to each of the 7 LGAs that made up the zone.

Speaking earlier the chairman of the event, and wife of the State PDP chairman, Mrs. Ene Akawor pledged the total support of the women to the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Sir Siminalayi Fubara and other candidates of the party in the zone, saying the party through Gov. Wike has made tremendous effort in bringing visible development to the people of the zone.

According to Mrs Akawor, “The massive turnout of the women for this programme tagged Rivers South East Women Unity Walk for SIM, A Simple Walk for Life is a clear indication of victory for the candidates. As women we have the capacity to mobilise all and sundry for the forthcoming elections.”

She commended Gov. Wike for supporting the choice of Sir Siminalayi Fubara, a competent technocrat to fly the gubernatorial flag of the party and assured the governor of their total votes, and further sued for peace all through the elections in 2023.

Also, Hon. Dum Dekor, the House of Representatives member representing the Tai, Khana and Gokana federal constituency, reaffirmed the total support for Sir Siminalayi Fubara at the 2023 elections.

He emphasised that the Ogonis are not ungrateful people, but very sensitive to ensure that they remain with the PDP as the others are just jokers, adding that all well meaning Ogoni people in politics are in PDP.

The Chairman of Khana local council area, Hon Thomas Bariera spoke on behalf of all the 7 LGAs chairmen present at the event to commend the commitment of the women towards a free and fair elections devoid of rancour.

Other speakers in their goodwill messages applauded the doggedness of the women in taking the front stage in political mobilisation and declared that the solidarity walk cum really has made a loud statement not just in the senatorial district but across the state.

Some of the leaders at the event include the chairmen of Oyigbo LGA, Elder Okechukwu Akara; Andoni, Barr. Erastus Awotu; Opobo/Nkoro, Hon. (Dr.) Enyiadah Cookey-Gam and Tai LGA, Hon. Mgba Kpone Okpe. Others were Prof. Roseline Konyan, and Dr. (Mrs.) Victoria Sergeant-Awuse.

The Women Unite for SIM Solidarity Walk which is an initiative that earlier kicked off at Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area and recently held in Andoni and Degema LGAs. The Solidarity Walk apart from serving as tonic for aerobic exercise, was also an avenue for political sensitisation and mobilisation in support of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sir Siminalayi Fubara and other candidates of the party.
