…Insists election is not war
With the 2019 general elections weeks away, the Amanyanabo of Abonnema, His Gracious Majesty, King (Barr.) Disrael Gbobo Bob-Manuel (ii), Owukori (ix), has emphasized the need for the people of Abonnema to conduct themselves peacefully during and after the forthcoming general elections, stressing that election is not war, but a democratic means of entrenching political leaderships at all levels of government that would in turn bring development to the people.
The Amanyanabo stated this on Wednesday in Abonnema during the monthly ‘Amateke’ (Community prayer and fasting) programme, organized to intercede on behalf of the community and to pray for God’s continued mercies, blessings and peace upon the land.
The First-Class Monarch harped on the need for members of the community to always stick together in unison and resist every attempt at causing division and frustration of genuine efforts made by government and spirited individuals to bring in development and restore the community to a commercial hub as it used to be when Abonnema had a seaport and was a choice destination of all and sundry, including foreign merchants who trooped in to do business in the area.
He implored the youth to shun all acts of social vices that would only destroy their lives and deny them a bright future.
While His Majesty noted with regret, the unfortunate actions of some individuals to stall development, the Amanyanabo also stated that the traditional institution is working round the clock, engaging stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to establish an LPG gas plant that would create enough jobs for the youth of the area, to curb the menace of restiveness largely caused and propelled by unemployment.
Delivering the sermon with the theme ‘Nyemoni Shall Not Lack God’s Support’, Primate of the Lutheran Congregation of Nigeria, His Eminence, Most Rev. Dr. Nimi John Fyneface, recalled with nostalgia how the community was a beehive of sorts, wherein foreigners who came in for commerce lived freely and intermarried with the people.
The Primate noted that because the community embraced Christianity in 1916 when Prophet Garrick Braide came with the knowledge and teachings of Christ, God in turn blessed the community in accordance with His word.
He however urged everyone to embrace peace so that the community would make significant progress.
