This is a 4 Part Write Up Episode ( In which this is the PART 2 ) with the sole purpose of highlighting and exploring an issue that is quite fascinating to both male and female gender of all ages , races and background . ( I urge you to read the previous episode to better understand if you’re yet to do so )
In this part I will be writing on the research I made on the history of the “Hymen”
So what’s the fuss all about? After all, in time the is a symbol of virginity and chastity, is just a thin membrane, easily torn by a spot of strenuous sport or carelessly inserted sanitary pad . It is quite possible that a woman who has never had sex may not technically be a virgin.
The value of virginity in ancient and modern times cannot be over emphasized. In the olden days , for example , a virgin was just young unmarried lady still a habitat in her parents’ house who had not had sex with any guy because her virginity was the guarantee that her husband wouldn’t be forced to raise another man’s child as his own. In essence, the guy could be rest assured that his children were all from his loins.
However in ancient Greece, they didn’t really pay attention to the hymen as the marker of virginity but, strangely enough, their god of marriage happened to be called Hymen. It was discovered that in that time unmarried women could still have sex and be virgin , provided no one could bear witness to the fact that the deed had been done . It was case of “see no evil, know no evil”.
The Christian church has also played a role in hyping virginity of course, reminding us that we should keep ourselves free from sexual activities until one is married, being in many cases when a person has gone astray from this rule , a Christian may be regarded a voluntary state of virginity – male or female celibacy –as a sacrifice ,a pledge to share to in the suffering of the Cross of Christ. Religious orders of all faiths have, over the centuries, drawn strength from the dedicated service of such single minded devotees.
Part 3 would follow in a few days
