Rivers lawmakers convert RSUST to Rivers State University

The Rivers State House of Assembly has passed three bills into law. The bills include the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) bill, The Rivers State University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital bill and The Rivers State Reserve fund bill.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Owaji Ibani said the RSUST bill, will now allow the renaming of the University as Rivers State University. Disclosing that lawmakers had agreed to the name change to enable the institution have direct bearing with current trends , especially as outlined by the National University Commission.

His words ” members also agreed that the name of the teaching hospital should also change. This House do hereby pass Rivers State University of Science and Technology bill into law and the name of the University known as Rivers State University.

“The House do hereby pass the Rivers State University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital bill 2017 into law.”

Lawmakers resolved to repeal the controversial Rivers State Reserve Fund bill 2008.They argued that the law was obsolete and should be repealed.
