The Initiative for Transparent Strategy and Good Leadership has alleged that the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike is in limbo over who should become his successor. A statement signed by the group’s Director of Communications, Ewusor Obamacare Nduku, noted that there are indications that the ticket could be given to a top Government Official from Opobo Local Government Area. The Statement sent to Africa Update reads: We are aware, that the PDP in Rivers State has started justling on who is to fly the flag of the party come 2023 governorship election.
It is rumoured that a top Rivers State Government official who hails from Opobo and is in charge of finance in Government House, may have been pencilled down by Gov. Wike to succeed him against the choice of one of those who started the struggle with him.
The planned succession is as a result of a very high level of privilege financial information the said person have about the financial recklessness of the Rivers State Government.
Some also believe that Gov. Wike may likely retain the governorship slot in Ikwerre land where Hon. Chief Austin Opara is been favoured, while others believe that the governorship may go to Ogoni where Lee Maeba is said to be pointed at, a position he has been angling since 2015.
