The Director of University of Port Harcourt Business School, Professor Okey Onuchukwu, has disclosed plans by the institution to organise the first ever graduation ceremony on Saturday November 23, 2019.
In an exclusive interview with Africa Update , at his office at the UNIPORT Business School Premises, off Abacha Road, GRA Phase 2, Rivers State, Onuchukwu, said over 100 persons will receive their certificates at the event.
Onuchukwu, who is also a member of the governing board of the University of Port Harcourt, noted that since the inception of the Business school in 2001, there has not been a graduation ceremony.
His words, ” Since the inception of this school, from 2001 till date, there has not been any graduation program.
” And you know that this is purely UNIPORT program, so the certificate they get here is the University of Port Harcourt certificate. So you don’t run two convocations.
“Just like other centres in the university, like the institute of Petroleum studies where you can do the graduation and induction.
” So what we are going to do here is graduation ceremony for our students, particularly these current ones that are graduating.
The other ones that have graduated when I was not here, we don’t have to worry ourselves because they are gone.
“For the current set of 2018/2019, that their results are being approved, we are organising graduation for them and the highlight is presentation of their certificates on the spot.
“The Vice Chancellor of UNIPORT, Prof Nduwa lalee is going to be the special guest of honour and the Dean of Management Sciences, Prof. B.F. Nwinee, is going to be the Chairman of the program”.
