Police Crack Down: Seven Arrested in Murder of Port Harcourt Lawyer

PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS STATE – In a significant breakthrough, operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested seven suspects in connection with the brutal murder of Barrister Bright Owhor, a 46-year-old legal practitioner based in Port Harcourt. Owhor was tragically killed by gunmen in July of this year along Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt.

Confirming the arrests yesterday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, revealed that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit spearheaded the investigation, leading to the apprehension of the suspects.

Suspects Identified, Cult Link Revealed

SP Iringe-Koko identified the arrested suspects as:

  • Prince Samuel (30), an armed operative
  • Daniel Godwin (25), driver of the getaway vehicle
  • Henry Peter (24), arm supplier and the individual who shot the victim
  • Godfrey Emmanuel (30), the gang leader
  • Chukwu Nneji (34)
  • Justice Dimkpa (27)
  • Promise Wikere (22), handler of stolen vehicles

“Following the tragic killing of Barrister Bright Owhor, 46 years, of No. 40c Market Road, Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt, by unidentified gunmen on July 6, 2025, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit were deployed to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Iringe-Koko stated.

She further added that “Through meticulous intelligence work and technical surveillance over ten days, all individuals involved in the crime were identified and apprehended.” During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the Deygbam Secret Cult Group. They admitted their roles in the lawyer’s murder, the withdrawal of funds from the victim’s bank account, and involvement in recent cult-related violence between the BS and G12 Deygbam factions in Diobu, Port Harcourt.

Exhibits Recovered and Commissioner’s Commendation

The police also recovered several exhibits from the suspects, including:

  • One MTN SIM card
  • Four locally made pistols
  • Seven rounds of 9mm ammunition
  • Two live cartridges
  • One Mini Bus
  • One Toyota Camry

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, has commended the operational prowess of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, emphasizing the Command’s unwavering commitment to the safety and security of all residents. He stated, “These operations reflect a broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks and ensure public confidence in law enforcement.”
