The Ondo State Police Command has successfully dismantled a suspected baby factory in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area, arresting the alleged operator, Ada Clement, and rescuing five pregnant teenage girls along with a newborn baby boy. Command spokesperson Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed the illicit operation involved the trafficking and sale of newborns for hundreds of thousands of naira.
The entire case, now under active investigation by the Command’s Gender-Based Violence Unit after being transferred from the Ore Division, came to light on October 21, 2025, thanks to a crucial report from an escapee. A 17-year-old pregnant girl, Vivian Peter, who had been trafficked from Akwa Ibom under the pretense of a job offer, provided the initial tip-off to the police. Vivian told investigators that upon arrival in Ore, she was taken to the facility, which she quickly realized was a baby factory holding several pregnant girls against their will. She managed to escape while being taken to another hospital for a medical scan and subsequently sought refuge at the police division.
Acting swiftly on her report, operatives from the Ore Division and the Gender Unit raided the facility, rescuing the five pregnant girls. They also found a newborn baby boy; his young mother, one of the victims, is now receiving post-natal care at the General Hospital, Ore, while the remaining victims are in protective police custody. Preliminary findings revealed that the main suspect, Ada Clement, and her accomplices confessed to the scheme, admitting they sold female babies for N400,000 and above, and male babies for N600,000 and above.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adebowale Lawal, has ordered a full investigation to ensure all members of the trafficking ring are apprehended and prosecuted accordingly. Detectives are currently intensifying efforts to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate. The police reiterated their firm commitment to eradicating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable persons across the state.
