Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has announced the immediate disqualification of Chairmanship and councillorship candidates, vying for the June 16, 2018 local Government polls in Degema local Government Area.
Wike, took the decision, following reported clashes which occurred on Saturday, April 14, when supporters of Chairmanship candidates who participated in a political debate in the area had a faceoff.
He said it was sad that supporters of aspirants could engage in such destructive activity before the elections.
Expressing displeasure, he charged the newly sworn in Caretaker committee chairmen of Six local government councils to ensure that peace is restored in their various local government areas, as his administration has zero tolerance for violence.
He further warned politicians from Asari Toru local government area to refrain from violence to avert the disqualification of participants in the scheduled elections.
