Ibadan, Nigeria — In a stern directive, the Nigerian Army has issued a warning to its personnel against the use of performance-enhancing supplements and drugs ahead of a major promotion exercise. The warning, delivered by the Chief of Personnel Management (Army), Major-General Adewale Adekeye, highlighted the severe health risks associated with these substances.
Speaking at the opening of the Nigerian Army Warrant Officers to Master Warrant Officers promotion exercise in Ibadan, Adekeye emphasized that the promotion process is not “a do-or-die affair.” He urged officers to prioritize their health, stating that “taking enhancement supplements and drugs could endanger the lives of persons who use them.”
The promotion exercise, which has so far documented nearly 500 warrant officers, will involve a compulsory medical examination to ensure all participants are physically and mentally fit. Other activities include weapon handling, drills, and general service knowledge. The Army’s leadership assured participants that the selection process would be fair and transparent and warned against any form of cheating or attempts to bribe board members.
