Freedom: Mental slavery

Freedom: Mental slavery

It is said as a man thinketh in his heart so he is, that wont be far from the truth; The world we live in today constantly amazes me of how enslaved people are, how chained the masses are, am not an atheist neither do i have any thing against any religion but my question is how much do people understand their Holy books and how often do they meditate on the things written within, not from an over religious perspective but as people without any bias or preconceived notion.

Cause i can tell you for a fact the truth is eternal it lives on after us, and if we try to observe most of these truths we can see that they are all related, the law of karma works for the Buddhist, the law of cause and effect for the scientist and the law of sowing & reaping for Christians and so forth; All are truths observed across different schools of thoughts and there are more truths awaiting those willing to search or observe them.

Ignorance is the destroyer of many, most are either too pre-occupied to want to observe or too dense to even notice and let others do the thinking for them, like the Apostle Paul said “Everyone must work out his own salvation” am sure he wasn’t just referring to the spiritual, limbo or astral plane (which ever you believe), am sure he meant every aspect of our lives no one can free you from your shackles(mind &body) but yourself.

In the words of the great reggae legend Bob Marley:

“emancipate yourself from mental slavery none but ourselves can free our mind”

There’s a new form of slavery i believe its mental, people expect everything to be thought out for them, most don’t even stop to ask is this right? is there some common sense in this? am i reading the situation differently or misinterpreting the text?. No one can explore the world from their house, you must get out there and you cant learn how to swim by just reading about swimming you must get wet if you’re not that lucky almost drown but nothing beats a first hand use of our mind and our body no one can steer us better than ourselves others can set path lights but the journey is ours.

Nelson Mandela once said

“Freedom is not merely to cast one’s chain, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others”

On that note we can observe one truth freedom is more of a state of mind than anything else and the sooner people accept that, rearrange their priorities, stop their biases and open their mind to accommodate others(ideas inclusive though you don’t have to necessarily accept them) we can all be freer, happier and more fulfilled than cloud our judgement with either negative or shallow thinking.
