Repositioning Rivers Democracy, the Senator Magnus Abe’s example

On Sunday 30th April, 2023, Senator Magnus Abe, candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the 2023 Governorship election in Rivers State, announced the withdrawal of his petition against the victory of Sir Siminialayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party from the Election Tribunal. Senator Abe said the decision to withdraw the petition was in the interest of Rivers people.

Abe’s decision was a bold and courageous one aimed at stabilizing the state’s democracy. It was a well thought out action in realization of the incontrovertibility of the process that produced Siminialayi Fubara as Governor elect. Magnus Abe, the erudite legal practitioner and astute politician saw what many of his supporters did not see and as a wise, reasonable and responsible gentleman took the bull by the horns by throwing in the towel.

He realized that there was no need to continue to fight, It was time to embrace peace that promotes development The dogged politician knew that politics is team work and no individual can do it alone without the support of others. I completely agree that Senator Abe is a good material for Governorship, being articulate, outspoken, energetic, vibrant , eloquent and intelligent, we crave for more leaders with such qualities, especially those who will build bridges of unity, cooperation, patient, tolerant and accommodation among our people.

It is advisable that the Ogoni born politician joins hands with the incoming administration of Sir Siminialayi Fubara towards ensuring its success. As a good politician it is not impossible that his political aspiration could be realized when the opportunity for the Ogoni presents itself, under proper arrangement.
Congratulations, Senator for a noble and honourable step well taken to reposition and stabilize the state democracy.
