The current trend of teenage initiation into cultism has become a thing of concern for members of Independent Newspaper Publishers Association of Rivers State, RIVPA.
During a recent courtesy visit to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Rivers State Command, RIVPA Chairman, Gloria Boma Harry, said the Association was at the NSCDC to foster a mutually beneficial relationship and bring to the knowledge of the Command, the worrisome trend of teenage initiation into the Same Bite Cult Group in primary and secondary schools.
She said as those whose businesses are centred on information gathering and dissemination, it was important for the Association to formally notify the command of the looming disaster waiting to happen as a result of the ongoing initiation.
Harry, noted that in the coming weeks, RIVPA will commence a sensitisation program to schools in the state and solicited for partnership with NSCDC and other well meaning individuals and organisations.
Responding to the Media owners, the Commandant, NSCDC Rivers State Command, Ogar Besong Michael, commended RIVPA for the initiative and stated that NSCDC has a mandate from the Federal Government to ensure that Schools are safe with the establishment of a special desk for that purpose.
He assured RIVPA of the Command’s willingness to be a part of the programme.
