Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has accredited fifteen (15 ) Marine vessels building and maintenance yards in the Country.
A paid advertorial on June 15, sighted by Africa Update reads: MARINE NOTICE: To: All ship owners, shipping companies, ship operators, ship masters / Captians/ Agents , Ship/ Boat Yards, floating dock operators, recognised organisations, indigenous/ international oil companies and the public.
” Accredited Ship/ Boat building/ maintenance yards in Nigeria. Pursuant to our statutory mandate of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) by virtue of sections 1(ii) and 22(1) (e) of the NIMASA Act, to regulate and promote maritime safety and the Agency’s powers to implement the Merchant Shipping Act (MSA) 2007 and the International Maritime Organisation Conventions and Regulations:
” NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN AS FOLLOWS ;
- That all prospective design and construction of marine vessels in Nigeria with intention to be flagged and/or registered under the Nigerian flag Administration shall be restricted to the Agency’s accredited yards.
- That all dry-dock maintenance of Nigerian flagged as well as foreign flagged vessels shall be required to be conducted at the Agency’s accredited yards.
- That the Agency shall recognize for approval prospective Marine vessels building plans from the accredited yards only.
- That the Agency shall recognize builder’s and dry-dock certificates issued by accredited yards only.
- That this Maritime notice shall cover the design, construction and maintenance of following;
- a. Vessels of 100GRT above.
- b. Speedboats of 200HP and above.
- c. Barges, tugboats, Houseboats.
- d. Fishing trawlers.
- e. Floating production, storage and offloading.
- f. Floating storage and offloading.
6. That the under-listed are the accredited Marine vessels building and maintenance yards; Naval Dockyard Limited – Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos – Building, repair and maintenance of vessels. Nigerdock FZE- Snake Island Integrated Free Zone, Snake Island, Lagos- Repair and maintenance of vessels of 100GRT and above.
West Atlantic Shipyard – Oil and Gas Free Zone, Federal Ocean Terminal, Onne- Repair and maintenance of offshore support vessels. Python Engineering Company Limited – 94, Enerhren Road, Warri Delta State- Building, repair and maintenance vessels of 100GRT and above.
Gredor Nigeria Limited – 27 Sedco Road, by Sedco waterside, Enerhren, Warri- Building, repair and maintenance of marine vessels under 500GRT. IGA shipping and Repair yard- Abule-Oshun, Badagry Express Way, Lagos – Building, repair and maintenance of marine vessels 100GRT and above.
Starz Marine and Engineering Limited – Oil and Gas Free Zone, Federal Ocean Terminal, Onne, Rivers Repair and maintenance of marine vessels under 500GRT. Tuwasco Marine Services Limited, 4 Market Road, by Edulugho waterside, Warri, Delta State- building, repair and maintenance of power driven small crafts of 200HP and above.
Warri Boat Yard- 28 Warri- Sapele Road, Warri, Delta State-building, repair and maintenance of barges, tug boats and house boats. Niger-Benue Transport Company -NBTC Road,, Dvwain, off Warri-Aladja Express Way- Building, repair and maintenance of barges, tugboats and Houseboats.
Big Fingers Oil Services Limited -28 Warri-Sapele Road, Warri, Delta State-building, repair and maintenance of barges , tugboats and Houseboats. West High Logistics Resources Limited – Ekete Waterside, Udu, Warri, Delta State-building, repair and maintenance of Barges, tugboats and Houseboats.
MG vowgas Limited- Mount Zion Fabrication Yard, End of peace valley estate road, Woji, Port Harcourt, Rivers State – Building, repair and maintenance of barges and specialized security boats.
Elshcon Nigeria Limited -7, Elshcon Road, off No. 3 Trans-Woji Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State -Building, repair and maintenance of tugboats, Houseboats and crew boats . Yade Barge Operator Limited – Atb-1 Evoc Estate, 2nd Edewor Estate Enerhren, Uvwie Local Govt Area, Delta State-building, repair and maintenance of self propelled Barges and marine vessels of 100GRT and above.
7. That this Notice Shall take effect from 1st July , 2023.
8. That the list of accredited yards can be obtained from the agency’s website: www.nimasa.gov.ng
9. That all stakeholders are advised to visit the Agency’s website for updated list of accredited yards
10. Thay failure to comply with this notice shall attract appropriate sanctions.
