Police operatives attached to Anambra State Police Command, have arrested a 24-year old woman, identified as Chidera Nwaoga, for attempting to bury an aborted baby girl. According to eye witnesses, the police acting on a tipoff, had caught her with a bucket and the dead foetus, at about 9pm on June 20.
The Police operatives attached to 33 Division in collaboration with Nsugbe Vigilante group, also arrested a quack chemist, identified as Odimegwu Ikunne ‘m’ aged 51 years, who reportedly performed the abortion by injecting Chidera with unprescribed drugs. Chidera who was weak due to hemorrhage, when arrested has now fully recovered, following urgent medical attention she received at multicare hospital 33 since 20th June,2020.
Haruna Mohammed, PPRO Anambra State Police Command, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, John B.Abang, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State CID Awka for discreet investigation, while the decomposing baby was buried based on expert advice.
