Seventh Day Adventist Church Drags INEC, FG TO Court

A Port Harcourt High Court has adjourned to the 18th of December a fundamental human rights case involving 4 members of Seventh Day Adventist Church against Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Federal Government.
The members of the church had gone to ask INEC and the Federal Government to change the day and date of the 2019 general elections which is inferring with their Saturday’s day of worship.
The four members said fixing the elections on their day of worship is an infringement on their Right of Freedom of Worship.
The counsel to the four members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church said his clients are in court to enforcement their fundamental right of worship.
Members of the church also demanded 50 million Naira for general damages to millions of affected members.

A Human Rights Advocate in Port Ken Henshaw says the Independent National Electoral Commission lacks the capacity to track expenses of politicians during campaigns.
Ken Henshaw said though, it will be good to have all campaign expenses monitored, INEC does not have want it takes to achieve it.
