Rivers State Govt did not ban church services

The Rivers State Government has debunked rumors that church services have been banned in the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, and Chairman of the State Inter ministerial Committee on COVID-19, Paulinus Nsirim, revealed that the directive is that churches should reduce the number of worshipers to 50 for small churches and 100 for  bigger churches at every service to maintain social distancing.

He said at a meeting with religious leaders at the Government House,  the pros and cons were considered before the decisions were taken.

He stated that churches were encouraged to take preventive measures by ensuring the provision of hand sanitizers, places where members can wash their hands and if possible provide device to check temperature of members .
