About three people are now feared dead following a boat mishap along the Soku creeks, in Akuku Toru Local Government Area, Rivers State.
The incident which occurred on Saturday has thrown the community into a state of grief.
Commenting on the accident, the caretaker Committee Chairman, Hon. Tonye Alalibo said a four member committee has been constituted to investigate circumstances surrounding the incident.
He reiterated that the council has put measures in place to ensure that such accidents are prevented in future.
He warned that boat drivers have been mandate to ensure that passengers wear life vests, and no boat driver is allowed to operate at night except during emergency situations, which approval will be sort and obtained from security operatives in the area.
While expressing his condolences to the families of the victims, he further stated that any driver whose boat is involved in an accident will be suspended from engaging in daily business activities, pending the outcome of the investigation.
