The Rivers Forward Initiative has commenced mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling for greater participation by professionals and other stakeholders in the political process in Rivers State.
Director-General of the initiative, Professor Andy Fred Wali, disclosed this during an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting of the group in Port Harcourt.
Professor Wali said the initiative had reviewed prospective candidates for the 2027 elections and declared its support for Rt. Hon. Ogundu Kingsley Chinda, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Rivers State, whom the group described as capable of providing leadership for the state.
According to him, professionals and other stakeholders with established economic interests in Rivers State could no longer afford to remain on the sidelines, stressing the need for them to participate actively in the electoral process.
Wali said the initiative would work towards mobilising voters and stakeholders across the state ahead of the elections.
In separate remarks, the Coordinator of the Rivers Forward Initiative in Okrika Local Government Area, Tari Paul Abam, and an insurance specialist and stakeholder, Alhaji Abubakar Ilavbare, said the organisation was also committed to mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election and the candidates it has identified for the 2027 elections.
They said the initiative would support Chinda in the Rivers State governorship election, as well as its preferred senatorial candidates in the three senatorial districts.
The candidates named were Bro. Felix Amaechi Obuah for Rivers South-West, Senator Olaka Nwogu for Rivers South-East and Senator Allwell Onyeso for Rivers East.
The stakeholders also declared support for candidates contesting under the banner of the Rainbow Coalition, including those seeking election to the National Assembly and the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The initiative said its mobilisation programme would focus on encouraging voters and stakeholders to participate actively in the 2027 electoral process.
The stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt marked the commencement of the group’s mobilisation activities as it prepares to take its campaign for participation and support to communities across Rivers State.
