The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has processed 2,296 passport applications within the first six operational days of its Special Passport Intervention Exercise in the United Kingdom, amid a strong turnout by Nigerians seeking passport services.
The applications were processed at the intervention centres in London and Manchester, where the exercise commenced on 7 September 2026.
According to a statement by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, 1,709 applicants were enrolled at the Manchester Centre, while 587 were processed in London.
Akinlabi said the exercise had recorded sustained turnout and steady processing of applicants with confirmed appointments at both centres.
A breakdown of the figures showed that 245 applicants were processed on 7 September, 401 on 8 September, 396 on 9 September, 429 on 10 September, 406 on 11 September and 419 on 12 September.
The Comptroller-General of the NIS, Kemi Nanna Nandap, also visited the intervention centres in Manchester and London as part of efforts to monitor the exercise and ensure efficient service delivery.
According to Akinlabi, the working visit was aimed at enabling Nandap to assess the exercise firsthand, interact with members of the Nigerian community and ensure that applicants received efficient and responsive passport services.
“As part of efforts to ensure effective oversight and quality Service Delivery, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi N Nandap, undertook a working visit to the Special Passport Intervention Centres in Manchester and London,” Akinlabi said.
He added that the visit was intended to ensure that the intervention delivered “efficient, responsive and seamless passport services to all applicants”.
Passport production, dispatch underway
The NIS spokesman said the intervention exercise would continue at both the London and Manchester centres, assuring applicants with confirmed appointments that they would be attended to.
He also disclosed that passport production and dispatch had commenced for applicants who had already been enrolled and were progressing steadily.
“The exercise will continue at the London and Manchester Centres. Applicants with confirmed intervention appointments are assured of service. Passport production and dispatch for enrolled applicants have commenced and are progressing steadily,” he said.
The NIS appreciated Nigerians in the UK for their patience, understanding and cooperation throughout the exercise.
The Service also urged applicants to continue working with officials at the centres to facilitate the smooth and efficient delivery of the intervention.
