The Independent Newspaper Publishers’ Association of Rivers State (RIVPA) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran journalist and publisher, Mr Eddie Williams.

In a condolence statement signed by its Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Ifeanyi Evans Osi, and Secretary, Augustine Tanee, RIVPA said its executives, Elders’ Council and members received the news of Williams’ death with shock and profound sadness.

The association described Williams as a veteran journalist whose contributions to the media industry would be remembered, particularly through his work as the publisher of The Envoy Newspaper.

Until his death, Williams was the publisher of The Envoy Newspaper, which has its headquarters in Port Harcourt and is widely circulated across the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria.

RIVPA extended its heartfelt condolences to the Williams family, praying that God would grant them the strength and fortitude to bear what it described as an irreplaceable loss.

The association also paid tribute to the deceased’s legacy in journalism and publishing, while acknowledging the impact of his work within the media community in Rivers State and beyond.

“May his gentle soul rest in peace,” the association said.

The condolence message was dated August 27, 2026, and signed by Osi and Tanee on behalf of the RIVPA Caretaker Committee.

Africa Update understands that Williams died on August 20 after a protracted illness.
