The Rivers State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the killing of two persons, including a protocol aide to the Executive Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Dr Bariere Thomas, in separate shooting incidents in Bori.

The latest incident occurred on Monday, August 17, 2026, when Phillip Barikui, an indigene of Opouko Town and protocol aide to the Khana council chairman, was reportedly shot dead by unidentified assailants on Makoro Street, Bori.

Another man, whose identity had not been established at the time of filing this report, was also reportedly shot during the attack. He was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Bori but reportedly died shortly after arrival while receiving medical attention.

The police have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing. The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Agabe, appealed to members of the public with relevant information to assist the authorities in identifying and apprehending those responsible.

The latest killing has heightened concerns over security in Khana Local Government Area, particularly following the reported death of Letam Kinee, popularly known as Langa, an appointee and member of the Khana Local Government Area Sanitation Committee.

Kinee was reportedly shot dead along the Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic Road in Bori, although the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.

Another killing was also reported along the Kaani Babbe Road on Saturday, August 15, 2026. The victim, identified by eyewitnesses as a middle-aged man from Kaani Babbe, was reportedly attacked at about 8pm while returning home.

The assailants were said to have killed the man and taken away his motorcycle, which he reportedly purchased less than two months earlier.

The circumstances surrounding the reported killings, including the identities and motives of the assailants, remain unclear.

Following Monday’s incident, normal activities reportedly resumed in Makoro Street and adjoining areas, with residents and businesses continuing their activities.

The police have urged residents with credible information that could assist the investigation to come forward as efforts continue to apprehend those responsible and determine the circumstances surrounding the attacks.
