Ahoada – The National Executive Council, NEC, of Uzugbani Ekpeye, the Apex Socio-Cultural Organization in Ekpeye Land, has suspended the President General, Dr. Ukechukwu Michael Nyemenim, and the Secretary General, Dr. Friday Onyije, with immediate effect for gross violations of the constitution of Uzugbani Ekpeye.
The suspension followed an emergency NEC meeting where a two-thirds majority of NEC members voted overwhelmingly in support of the resolution.
According to the resolution signed by the Secretariat, NEC considered a petition served on the Secretariat against Dr. Ukechukwu Michael Nyemenim on the grounds of:
- Diversion of ₦14,000,000 of Uzugbani Ekpeye funds into his personal account, and
- Convening a Congress meeting without the due approval of the National Executive Council.
At its meeting on the 9th of July, 2026, the Executive Council deliberated on the matter. A motion was formally moved and seconded, and Dr. Ukechukwu Michael Nyemenim was cross-examined. Faced with overwhelming evidence, he admitted to the act.
NEC described the actions as a breach of the constitution. Specifically, Dr. Ukechukwu Michael Nyemenim contravened Article 5, Subsection 9(1), which empowers only the Financial Secretary to receive money and deposit same into the organization’s corporate account.
Furthermore, both the President General and the Secretary General acted in an unconstitutional manner by calling for a Congress meeting without a formal NEC meeting where such was discussed and approved. They breached constitutional provisions that mandate that notice of Congress and its agenda must receive prior approval of NEC before issuance.
NEC declared that both actions constitute a gross abuse of office and a violation of their oath of office.
Key Directives:
- The Deputy President General of Uzugbani Ekpeye, Dr. Agilegbe, has been mandated to take charge of the affairs of Uzugbani Ekpeye with immediate effect.
- The Deputy President General is directed to preside over an Emergency Congress scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, 1st August, 2026, for the purpose of selecting and inaugurating members of the Uzugbani Ekpeye Electoral Planning Committee.
- All organizations, government agencies, corporate bodies, and the general public are hereby directed to cease all transactions and correspondence with Dr. Ukechukwu Michael Nyemenim in his capacity as President General of Uzugbani Ekpeye with immediate effect.
The NEC of Uzugbani Ekpeye reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the constitution, transparency, and accountability in the administration of Uzugbani Ekpeye.
