The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has presented Certificates of Return to its governorship candidates ahead of the forthcoming elections, including the party’s Rivers State governorship candidate, Mr Richard Eyina Victor.
The presentation ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja during a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
According to a notice issued to the media by the PDP’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Emenobong, governorship candidates from various states were invited to the Federal Capital Territory to receive their Certificates of Return following their emergence through the party’s primary elections.
Speaking during the event, the Interim Chairman of the National Working Committee (NWC), Mr Kabiru Turaki, congratulated the candidates and charged them to uphold the ideals and principles of the party.
Turaki also disclosed that all candidates would be required to sign an undertaking affirming their commitment to remain members of the PDP after winning elective office.
He stated that the undertaking would be a prerequisite before the party submits the names of its candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The presentation of the Certificates of Return formally confirms the candidates as the party’s standard-bearers for their respective governorship contests.
Mr Victor’s emergence as the PDP governorship candidate in Rivers State is expected to intensify political activities in the state as parties continue preparations ahead of the election.
Further details of the NEC meeting are expected to emerge in the coming days.
