A British couple have been arrested in the Spanish resort town of Benalmadena after their six-month-old baby reportedly tested positive for cocaine, prompting a police investigation and the intervention of child welfare authorities.
According to reports, the couple allegedly left their three young children aged six months, two years and four years unattended in a hotel room while they went out for the evening.
Authorities were alerted to the situation and subsequently attended the hotel, where they discovered the children alone. Investigators reportedly found the room in a state of disarray, with the eldest child, aged four, appearing to be caring for the two younger siblings.
Sources close to the investigation described the conditions in which the children were found as “worrying”, raising serious concerns about their welfare and safety.
The case took a more troubling turn after medical examinations allegedly revealed that the six-month-old infant had tested positive for cocaine. The circumstances surrounding the exposure remain under investigation.
Following the discovery, all three children were placed in temporary care by the regional government of Andalucia. They were subsequently transferred to Malaga’s Materno Infantil Hospital, where they underwent medical assessments and routine health checks.
