The livelihood improvement family enterprises (life-nd) with its target in the Niger Delta region says that, it is determined to ensure that there is surplus food production across the various communities in the Niger Delta region. National Project Coordinator, life-nd Engr Sanni Abiodun disclosed this at a media round table held in Port Harcourt last weekend,
According to Abiodun, the overall development goal and objectives of life-nd is for transformation of the rural economy in which all the rural population can derive prosperity and equal benefit as well as enhance income, food security and job creation for rural youth and through agribusiness development on a sustainable basis, Mr Abiodun opined that life-nd is also determined for the enhancement of economic opportunities for rural youth and women, even as he posited that part of its components include support to agribusiness incubation, support to production and marketing infrastructure, support to financial inclusion for Agri enterprises and rural institution strengthening among others,
The Life-nd national project coordinator averred that the organisation covers and as well targets nine oil producing Niger Delta region which include, Abia, Bayelsa, Cross Rivers, Delta, Edo, Ondo , pointing out that these six states are being funded by IFAD, while Akwa-Ibom, Imo, and Rivers State are funded by the NDDC, with target on 10 local government areas and 10 communities per local government area, Abiodun said that the target is based on poverty level, youth unemployment, community involvement, conflict-free nature, level of agricultural activities and private sector involvement.
He maintained that key major project achievements, especially in 2022 include disbursement of loans to the rural communities as well as income- generating opportunities provided for rural women and youths, He therefore solicited for media partnership in order to publicize widely the activities and laudable programs of life-nd across the Niger Delta region.
