A former Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Ibim Semenitari, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, Africa Update has learnt. An inside source who broke the news about her resignation from the APC, said Semenitari sent a letter to her Ward Chairman in Okrika Local Government Area, stating her resolve to quit the party.
The source further revealed that she has also notified the former Minister of Transportation and leader of the Party in the State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, of her decision to leave the party.
Africa Update was unable to ascertain the reason behind the sudden decision of Semenitari, who served as Commissioner of Information and Communications during Amaechi’s administration as Governor of the State, to walk away from a party she worked tirelessly for.
Interestingly, the Commissioners who were saddled with managing the image and information of the Rivers State Government during the administration of Amaechi, have left the former Minister. Semenitari’s predecessor, Hon Ogbonna Nwuke, left the party last year and was received into the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, alongside Others, by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
However, the future of APC looks uncertain with the continuous defection or resignation of bigwigs. Recall that Africa Update had reported a fortnight ago that Dr. Dawari George, Celestine Akpobari and Golden Ben Chioma, had quit the party.
Credible sources have hinted that more prominent members of the party will dump the party in the coming days. Their decision to do so, have not been disclosed.
