Battle of the Comics talent show: The Shinning Stars Group wins Trophy

The 2nd edition of the Battle of the Comics talent show came to a climax over the weekend in Port Harcourt,the Rivers State capital, with The Shining Stars Dancing Group clinching the first position,
2nd position went to Doutimy Aaron, Emmanuel Alfred followed closely behind while Treasure Aaron and Ayiba Tonye occupied the 4th and 5th positions respectively.

The event which featured singing, dancing, and comedy was organized by the Publishers of Africa Update Newspaper and SpringPoint Magazine.

Speaking exclusively to Nigerian NewsDirect, the Publisher of Africa Update Newspaper and SpringPoint Magazine, Gloria Boma Harry said she ventured into the Battle of the Comics talent show, to redirect youths from negative tendencies to useful ventures.

According to her, the Battle of the Comics talent show has successfully entered its 2nd edition, with this year’s edition receiving more attendance. The CEO of Africa Update Newspaper said contestants are selected through laid down principles, pointing out that there can only be one winner at a time.

Harry said the competition is an annual event, pointing out that if such events thrive in Lagos, and other cities in Nigeria, it can equally be successfully staged here in Rivers State. “I am satisfied with the event today.I thank God for the good weather, it has been raining all these days, but today’s weather is very calm,”she said.

Asked what her experience has been as a publisher, Boma said. “As a publisher it has not been easy. ‘At times I felt like quitting. You know I was a banker, where I was paid well, but here we are in publishing,you put in so much and get little or nothing. Plus the risk involved in it as regards the story you publish. But we’re driven by passion and this made me resign my appointment in the bank. We are working for satisfaction and not reward,” Gloria said.

Highpoint of the event was presentation of awards to some deserving individuals and corporate bodies,who have distinguished themselves in their areas of endeavours as the Battle of the Comics talent show held the same day and at the same venue as the Trendsetters Awards, which is in its 3rd edition.##
