A lines man at the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHED, is now cooling off at the Rivers State office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for economic sabotage and energy theft.
Africa Update gathered that the linesman was arrested at Abacha Road axis of the State, when he was hanging up a cable for his brother.
Confirming the incident, the Manager Corporate Communication, PHED, John Oyi, said the official was caught in the act of transferring energy from one customer to another.
He said, “One of the staff was arrested and taken away to the EFCC, for economic sabotage arising from energy theft.
“That is the war the present management has declared on energy theft or corruption. We are not leaving anything to chance in the fight against corruption.
“We can confirm to you that one Elvis was arrested.”
He tasked customers to stop inducing and tempting PHED officials.
Soliciting for total compliance, he warned that customers who flout this order will be prosecuted alongside the erring official.
