Rivers APC sheathes sword, accepts Wike’s truce

In a bid to ensure that citizens of Rivers State live in a peaceful and cordial atmosphere devoid of rancor and acrimony, arising from the recently concluded general elections in the state, elected and appointed members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have decided to accept the truce declared by the State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
Briefing newsmen, on this development, in Port Harcourt, the state capital on April 29, 2019, Senator Andrew Uchendu, representing Rivers East Senatorial District, said the decision to work with Wike, is in the overall interest of Rivers people and a reaction to the Statewide broadcast of Wike, ‘in which he extended his arms of fellowship to Rivers People including all political parties.
He stressed that, ‘about 2 weeks have passed since this live broadcast was made and as stakeholders in the Rivers project, we have waited in bated breath in hopes that we will see deliberate action and progress arising from that broadcast geared towards building our state and restoring the dignity of every Rivers person.
“Although we are yet to see the indication of all he said in this direction, we are still resolved not to give up.”
Uchendu disclosed that the Easter message released by the South South leader of the party, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, urging all and sundry to embrace peace, has further deepened the aspiration of party men and women to coexist in peace.
Responding to questions from Journalists on the current security situation in the state, Uchendu said, “My brother, you know, When two captains are in a boat for those of us who come from riverine areas when one captain is paddling from one side of the boat and another is paddling from the other side of the boat, what means is that there will be no movement, We will allow Governor Wike to discharge his constitutional responsibilities of a government because the primary role of a government is to ensure the security of lives and properties of the citizens as provided in Nigeria Constitution in 1919 as amended, no other person takes that responsibility.
“What we are saying is that we will join in that boat and allow one captain to pilot the boat and Gov Wike is the captain in the boat for now, we want to help him take the boat to the sore, thank you,” he noted.
