FIDA Takes Sexual Harassment Sensitization To Schools

The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), has kicked off school awareness campaign in a bid to check the incessant cases of rape in Rivers State.

The chairperson of FIDA in Rivers State, Anthonia Osademe during the sensitization campaign to some schools in Okrika Local Government Area, urged pupils and students in schools across the state to always speak out in the event of rape or sexual harassment.

She said, ” We go to communities, we sensitize the women, the market women, the community as a whole including fathers, because men are involved in this.

“But because the children are not always there, we are going from school to school, nursery, primary, secondary, to create this awareness on private parts and enlighten them to always be on the alert and report when ever there is an attempt of sexual abuse”.

A cross section of female pupils and students of Okrika National School while speaking to newsmen, thanked FIDA for educating them.

They said they are often harassed by the male folks and now following the sensitization, they will ensure they report any case of harassment from anybody.
