The Men and Women’s national basketball teams arrived in Lomé, Togo on Thursday for the 2018 FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup slated to run from the 9th to the 11th of November.
The men’s team is made up of four players captained by Azouma Dike (Kano Pillars), Abdul Yahaya (Kano Pillars), Lucky Subel (Kano Pillars) and Godwin David (Kano Pillars) according to a media statement from the Nigerian Basketball Federation.
Recall Yahaya finished third in the scoring chat for Nigeria who won gold last year. The D’Tigers 3×3 team on their part, will be looking to defend their title which they won in 2017.
FIBA World Cup debutant and 2018 Zenith Bank Basketball Women’s League Most Valuable Player, top the list of women listed for the competition.
Other players listed by the team’s coach, Acha Chris are Grace Okonkwo, Ijeh Fumnaya Linda.
The women who lost out narrowly to Mali in 2017 final will be looking to go a step further and win the title.
Twelve teams including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Togo, and Uganda will be competing for medals at the 2018 FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup.
The 2018 FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup, will also be an opportunity for teams to compile points that will in the long run help with qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics where 3×3 basketball will make a historic debut appearance.
