The Independent National Electoral Commission has extended its effort towards ensuring a hitch free election in 2019 by joining forces with the European Union to inaugurate the Voters Education Volunteers in the University of Port Harcourt.
Speaking during the inauguration,the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu who was represented by the INEC National Commissioner in charge of voters education and publicity, Prince Solomon Adedeji Soyebi, assured Nigerians that their votes will count during the 2019 elections and urged students to desist from the act of buying and selling of votes during elections.

The head of the European Union delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ketil Karlsen also called on students to get fully involved in the electioneering process and not just collect their permanent voter’s card. He encouraged them to vote in the right leaders and help promote democracy. Also speaking during the inauguration, the Irish ambassador to Nigeria, Sean Hoy advised students to shun electoral violence.
The deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, prof. Regina Ogali who represented the school’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ndowa Lale, commended INEC and the EU for taking giant steps towards enlightening and educating electorates on the right procedures to follow during elections. She expressed confidence that their efforts will be fruitful.

25 students of the institution were inaugurated as voters education volunteers for the south-south region.
