Rivers Governorship: Wike, Abe enter into “an unholy agreement?’

While the gales of defections have taken centre stage, there seem to be an alleged collaboration between some Politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State.

A source who spoke with Africa Update, on conditions of anonymity, purported that what most electorates might term as betrayal by supporters loyal to the Senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial District, Magnus Abe, as a result of their defection to the PDP is a haux.

While the Governorship ticket might be an almost impossible feat for Abe to wrestle from his close ally and Governor of the State, Nyesom Wike, the source revealed that there is “an unholy agreement’ between the duo, to ensure that a riverine candidate does not become the next governor of the state.

Wike, who has his eyes fixed on the governorship ticket of PDP, had allegedly promised to handover to Abe in 2023, if he (Abe) supports his (Wike’s ) aspirations.

The source further revealed that there are plans to balkanize Rivers APC, by reportedly soliciting support from the National APC leader, Bola Tinubu and the National APC Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, who are said to be purportedly scheming to make the Minister of Transportation and leader of the party in Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, loose face before his Principal, President Muhammadu Buhari, whose confidence in him (Amaechi) seem to have taken an upward movement.

Though detail of this alleged scheme is unknown,  the source alleged that Abe is plotting to set up parallel structures of APC at the State, Local Government and Ward levels, ahead of the party primaries, to make room for possible negotiation between Amaechi and himself.

While the information remains unconfirmed, the opening of a parallel APC secretariat in the State by Abe, tends to give some credibility to the allegations made by our source.
