…RAISED Commends President Buhari
Rivers Arise Initiative for Sustainable Engagements and Development(RAISED), a pro-sustainable development group has hailed President Buhari for the initiative to complete the abandoned East-West Road, a major highway that connects the entire Niger Delta and beyond. Recall that the Jonathan administration abandoned the road even when funds were said to be released to the Ministry of Niger Delta which was headed by Godsday Orubebe.
Addressing newsmen after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday, Amaechi said Council has approved a 4-man Inter-Ministerial Committee saddled with the responsibility of ensuring speedy completion of the East-West Road in the Niger Delta and N142.5billion for construction of roads across the country.
Amaechi further stated that the committee would undertake an inspection tour of the East-West Road with a view to ensuring its completion. Other members of the committee include Ministers of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; Niger Delta, Usani Uguru Usani and that of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola.
In a statement made available to newsmen, the Spokesman of RAISED, Sam Wene Chinda stated that the Buhari administration is committed to making life meaningful to all Nigerians even under resource and funds constraints.
“Never in the history of our dear country have we seen a leader so committed to rule of law, due process, transparency and prudence in the management of national income. President Buhari became President at the time when the price of the mainstay of our economy-oil has nosedived yet he was able to apply the lean income from petrodollar to manage the economy. He has encouraged citizens to think outside the box and that has resulted in massive agricultural and other entrepreneurial activities by citizens.
“President Buhari’s choice of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and other performing Ministers in his cabinet is a clear indication that he means well for the nation and desires to move the nation forward.
“We are happy that work would soon commence on the East-West Road. The completion of that road will in no small way affect the people of the Niger Delta positively. As a group that supports development, we can only join forces with positive minds from our region like Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in advancing the leadership philosophy of this administration. May God strengthen Mr. President and his lieutenants in the fight to rid Nigeria of graft,” the group stated.
