The police command in Kwara State has revealed that nine policemen, a pregnant police woman and her unborn baby and 13 others were killed during a robbery attack on Guaranty Trust Bank, Zenith Bank, First Bank, Union Bank and Eco Bank on Thursday in Offa local government area.
The command’s spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi (DSP) who confirmed this on Friday added that seven civilians were also killed by the daredevil armed robbers.
Unconfirmed reports however indicated that the casualty figure had risen to 23.
There were reports that the robbers, in their bid to escape from Kwara also killed two mobile policemen in Okuku, Osun state while they also abandoned three of their operational vehicles on the road.
Sources said, the armed gang of about 30 men, blew up entrances into the banks with dynamite in an operation which lasted for more than one hour.
The gang had reportedly invaded a police station killing scores including some complainants
