Road Crash: FRSC Rivers State Command embarks on Sensitization

The first annual meeting to educate residents of Rivers State, on road traffic offences and safety, organised by Federal Road Safety Corp, Rivers State Command, kicked off at Obio/Akpo Local Government Area.

The Sector Commander, FRSC, Rivers State Command, Etuk Imoh Jonah, speaking to a cross section of participants, on Thursday, March 22, attributed road traffic accident to street hawking, attitude of drivers , alcohol intake by some road users and disregard for road signs by drivers.

To curtail road traffic accident, the Commander, urged drivers to fasten their seatbelts and change their attitudes , mindful of the fact that life has no duplicate.

The meeting which took place at Obio/Akpo Council, was attended by the Rivers State Governor, Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, who was represented by the caretaker Chairman of the Council, Chief Hon. Noble Amadi, commended FRSC for creating the awareness, stating that the Rivers State government would continue to give its full support to the activities of the FRSC.

He further maintained that the state government is committed to ensuring that all the roads in Rivers State are in proper state so as to reduce road traffic accident.

The Caretaker Chairman also pointed out that sale of alcoholic drinks at motor parks account for major causes of road traffic crash.

In his speech, the State Commissioner of Police, Zaki M. Ahmed, said fighting of crime in the state is a collaborative effort of both the police and the communities and  advised parents to caution their children to desist from cultism and other cult related activities, noting that the hardened criminals now started as cultists.

Senior officers of the Nigerian Army,  FRSC, Nigerian Navy and other security agencies, members of the National Association of Transport Owners, Chiefs, traditional rulers,Youth Corps members attended the event.
