There are indications that former vice president Atiku Abubakar might not vote during the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , fixed for Saturday.
This disclosure was made yesterday, when the PDP BoT chairman, Walid Jubril and the national publicity secretary of the party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye , responded to questions bothering on whether or not the former Vice President is eligible to vote.
Making reference to the party’s constitution , they noted that Atiku would be allowed to attend and address party members at the convention.
Africa Update gathered that Section 8 of the PDP constitution, which deals on procedure for rejoining the party states: “A person who desires to rejoin the party after leaving it shall – (a) apply to his Ward Secretary for re-admission; and (b) unless given waiver by the National Working Committee, be placed on probation for a period of not less than one year.
“(9) Subject to the provision of Section 8(b), a member on probation shall have the right to attend all meetings of the Party, but shall not be entitled to vote at such meetings, nor shall he be eligible to contest for elective office on the platform of the Party”.
Meanwhile, the party has technically barred Osun and Anambra states from taking part in the convention because of internal squabbles.
