A middle aged man, Oluwole Aiyeloja, shocked passers-by at Obanla area of Akure, the Ondo State capital, when he cut off his penis with a razor blade.
According to eyewitness report, Oluwole, who was properly dressed and sitting on a bench, suddenly started undressing, then cut off his penis with razor blade and was about slicing his scrotum, when a man wrestled the blade off him.
Police officers from A Division Station were contacted and he was rushed to the hospital.
Confirming the incident , the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ondo State, Femi Joseph, said preliminary investigation showed that oluwole might be suffering from a spiritual cum psychological problem.
“When we interrogated him, he said a ‘monster’ had been talking to him to take some weird decisions. He said it was the ‘monster’ who told him to cut his penis for donation which he did. He added that the ‘monster’ also instructed him to donate his testicles.
“If he had tried to commit suicide, which is a criminal offence, we would have charged him, but we don’t actually know how to situate his condition.
” He really needs help which we are trying to give him. At present, he is responding to treatment at the police hospital”
The police spokesperson also commended the ‘good samaritans’ who ensured he got the attention of the police, emphasising that Nigerians must always be their brothers keepers.
