Ogoni leaders beg Wike to contest in 2019

Over 300 prominent Ogoni politicians in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have asked Governor Nyesom Wike to seek a second term in office.

The decision was reached after a stakeholders meeting on Tuesday .

The communiqué signed by the Ogoni politicians comprising serving government officials, former political appointees, elected political office holders and former public office holders from Khana, Gokana, Tai and Eleme local government area, was read by Senator Lee Maeba

Part of the communiqué reads:

“The Governor, Nyesom Wike has performed excellently in the administration of the state.

“The State is virtually a construction site in a recessed economy to the chagrin of his critics which has endeared him to Ogoni people.

“We the Ogoni people in the PDP unanimously urge Governor Wike to present himself for a second term in office as Governor of Rivers state,”

The leadership of the PDP in Ogoni also threatened to resist any attempt to use security operatives to rig the 2019 general election.
