Nwuke bags RIVPA man of the year award, charges Media Practitioners not to be “disinterested participants “

The pioneer Chairman of Rivers State Independent Publishers’ Association (RIVPA) and a former member of the House of Representatives,  Chief Ogbonna Nwuke has tasked journalists and media practitioners to actively participate in influencing the thought process of society.

This charge was given at the sidelines of the RIVPA award event in Port Harcourt.

Speaking to newsmen, he said ” When it comes to the profession,  we are professionals and so we say we are not interested in what is happening. So we say we are disinterested participants but as humans who live in society, we can not turn our eyes away from what is happening in society, and so I believe that journalists who have changed the thought process either in our society or outside our society have been those who have been committed to the ideals of journalism.”

In her earlier remarks the RIVPA Chairman,  Gloria Boma harry decried the lack of legislation and policies to protect media practitioners from harassment and intimidation.

The RIVPA man of the year award was bagged by Chief Ogbonna Nwuke , while former NUJ president , O.C J okocha and several others also received awards in various categories.
