Ephraim Nwuzi regains freedom, dumps APC for PDP

Ephraim Nwuzi, a Member of the House of Representatives, who was arrested for allegedly threatening officials of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, just before the February 25 election has dumped his party for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after he was released from detention, Africa Update reports.

The Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for Etche/ Omuma Federal Constituency, was arrested about two days to the February 25, 2023, Presidential and National Assembly elections after he was caught in a viral video threatening to assault INEC officials conducting the elections.

He was remanded in the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre after appearing in Court in connection with the threats.

But Africa Update gathered that a Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt had struck out the criminal suit by the Rivers State Government against him.

Trial judge, Justice Okogbule Gbasam struck out the matter against Nwuzi, after the Rivers Government through the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of the state, Professor Zacchaeus Adangor informed the court of the state government’s resolve not to prosecute the accused.

Counsel to Nwuzi, Tuduru Edeh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria did not object to the application of the prosecution counsel.

The trial Judge, Justice Gbasam struck out the suit and directed that the accused be released from the Nigerian Correctional Center to his home.
