Real Madrid are reportedly poised to escalate their interest in Bournemouth’s impressive young defender, Dean Huijsen, with scouts set to scrutinize his performances during the upcoming international break.
The 19-year-old Huijsen has emerged as a standout player for Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth side since breaking into the first team in December. Forming a formidable central defensive partnership with Ilya Zabarnyi, the Dutch-born talent, who joined from Juventus last summer, has started 16 consecutive Premier League matches.
Huijsen’s burgeoning talent has also been recognized at the international level. Initially called up to the Spain Under-21s squad, he received a further boost this week with a late promotion to the senior side, replacing the injured Inigo Martinez. The highly-rated defender will now be hoping to make his senior international debut in Spain’s upcoming two-legged UEFA Nations League quarter-final clash against the Netherlands.
According to reports, Real Madrid will be paying particularly close attention to Huijsen should he feature against Ronald Koeman’s Dutch side. Scouts from the Spanish giants are expected to provide detailed assessments of the Bournemouth youngster in the coming days.
Real Madrid are known admirers of Huijsen and view him as a potential cornerstone of their future defense as they look to refresh their aging backline, with both Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba now in their thirties. Huijsen’s age and evident ability position him as a long-term prospect for Los Blancos.
Furthermore, Real Madrid’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements has been underscored by injuries to key players like Alaba and Eder Militao this season, highlighting the need for greater depth. While Huijsen is a primary target, Real Madrid are also reportedly considering Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite as another potential addition during the summer transfer window
