The Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG) and Co-chairman, Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA) Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, has assured that the facilities and venues designated for the games are 99 per cent ready, as about 8,000 Athletes from across the Country arrive the state state ahead of the 43rd edition of the public service games.
The SSG, who visited the four (4) designated games centers, which include: Port Harcourt Club, Sharks Stadium/Alfred Diete-Spiff Civic Centre, University of Port Harcourt and Basketball Court, Niger Street, Port Harcourt, in the course of his inspection tour, said that ‘the I have been doted and the T crossed.’
This declaration indicates that all is set for the kick off of the competition billed to start on Thursday, 28th November. he maintained that the facilities already in place are more than ninety percent satisfactory.
Danagogo made the assertion on Wednesday in Port Harcourt the Rivers state capital. He said:“We are here for our final assessment of the facilities and it is clear that we are good to go. I’m sure those of you who are with us from Shark’s stadium, down to the Port Harcourt club and then here (Uniport), you can see that we are set and that is the essence of the joint visit.
“We have the facilities, no doubt, I am satisfied, I may not be 100 per cent satisfied, because we’re still trying to ensure that everything to the smallest pin is working perfectly.”
Also speaking after the facilities’ inspection, the National President of the Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA), Aloku Amaebi, emphasised that the assessment was crucial, because over 8,000 out of the expected 10,000 athletes have arrived PortHarcourt, while the remaining 2000 athletes are expected to arrive before the end of today.
Amaebi stated about 50 Ministries, Department and Agencies would be participating at the 43rd edition of the games, adding 8,000 athletes were already on the ground, while 2,000 others were still being awaited.
He further stated: “Rivers State is hosting the 43rd edition of the games, prior to the commencement of the games, facilities visits are very crucial and this movement today is for me to personally come as the president to assess the state of readiness of the state in terms of the facilities.
“The 15 events that would be hosted at the various event centers, I have gone through one by one and I can confirm that the facilities are fully ready for the various events.
“There may be one or two finishing touches, as the SSG has confirmed to you that today that would be done so that by tomorrow, we will commence the games in earnest ”
